Greg A. mentions the lack of hype / press coverage of Thunderbolts prior to the issue # 1 reveal. I was in middle school during the era & was very much in the pocket for Wizard Magazine. Wizard actually played into the kayfabe of the Thunderbolts premise. There was a featured article with Bagley design sketches & discussion with Kurt Busiek. The article portrayed the book as a very traditional, back-to-basics title. The fake-out in the Wizard article definitely contributed to my surprise & enjoyment of the reveal at the end of T-Bolts issue one.
